Success Stories Sober Living Scholarships in Texas
This was possible thanks to the financial support I received from Living Amends. Once I was in sober living, I started off with getting a bed, then Whitney gave me a temporary job which turned into me getting a more permanent job. I did new inventories, made amends, and for some great peace of mind that continues to this day. I now sponsor several guys in the community and have gone into business for myself. I also have a new profession in the sobriety field that feels like a calling.
…everything was catered towards my life.
To learn more about addiction recovery, including AA, reach out to Silver Mist Recovery. It’s not one we use too frequently in our everyday language, but it still holds significant meaning. To make amends means to apologize for something you have done or Sober living home for wronging someone in some way. It means mending, or (quite literally) fixing, the relationship.
How to Apply
- We believe that when you are paying for at least a portion of your stay at a facility, you’re more invested in the recovery process.
- You have to put in the work to repair the damage and heal those relationships.
- Honestly, I can’t imagine the headache of owning a car while living in NYC.
I had the option to move back to my parents’ house in the same old town and around the same old people with who I spent my time within my addiction. I knew that all it would take was one single moment of weakness, one split second, for me to call one of them up if I found myself craving a drink or drug. The idea that it would all be so readily available to me was too scary to fathom, so I knew that going to my parents’ house was suddenly no longer an option for me. If you don’t see the sober living facility you want to attend listed above, we welcome you to contact us online. The first step to applying for the Living Amends scholarship is to visit the Apply page and fill out the first month’s application.
The Importance of Sober Living Outside of Treatment
It was my fourth time in treatment, and they weren’t very supportive or optimistic, but I told them I was going to die without help. Towards the end of treatment, I was having panic attacks because I didn’t know what I was going to do, but then Any Length Retreat had me apply for the Living Amends scholarship. It’s really hard to apologize to those you’ve hurt — it takes courage and humility and requires a deep, intense look at yourself. Thankfully, there are tips you can take to help make your living amends permanent and lasting. At Living Amends, we strive to ensure that each recipient of our scholarship can get the on-going support they need to stay sober. If you want to show your loved ones and yourself that you are on a better path and making positive changes, you must continue showing up and remain focused on your recovery. Again, in recovery, your words may not mean as much to some people as you wish they would. Understandably, some people may just need more time to learn how to trust you again.
- At Living Amends, we understand lack of finances is the main reason most clients do not follow through with a sober living environment.
- If they receive that scholarship, they’ll pay 75% of that month’s rent.
- Sometimes, it’s necessary to make amends to employers or co-workers.
Changes in personal behaviors
A salary of 80K+ a year in New York City will afford you a more comfortable social life but you’ll still need a roommate to get by. Theoretically you can live in NYC with a living amends meaning salary of 60K a year. You’ll have roommates (probably more than one) and won’t be eating out at sit-down restaurants often. Broadway shows and rooftop bars will be reserved for (very) special occasions.
Person in long -term sobriety may make a commitment to their own recovery but get pulled away from their plan due to lack of financial resources. We want to help build the bridge from a residential treatment center into sober living. When the person you owe reparations to has died, you can still make living amends by changing things about you and how you live your life. These changes can positively impact the people you love and care about.
- Obviously Central Park takes the cake, but don’t make the mistake of overlooking the other 1,700+ city parks.
- Last week I chaired an H&I, and just yesterday, I picked up my first ever sponsee, who is also at Any Length Retreat.
- Also, each recipient must agree to donate back 25% of the total awarded amount within a year’s time.
- The city offers a unique living experience that’s both exhilarating and challenging.

I have been meeting lots of people within the aa community and have a few promising job leads. I have also joined up with a group of musicians who get together before meetings and play music. It’s been a really great experience to do that sober, with other sober people!
